Softly, now: part concert. part memoir

March 24 @ 8:00 pm - April 5 @ 4:30 pm

Softly, now

Part concert. Part memoir.

This world premiere features 2b’s artistic co-directors unplugged, singing the soundtrack of their twenty-year friendship.

In Softly, now, Christian Barry (Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story) and Anthony Black (One Discordant Violin) tell a story about coming, going, love, fear, and the rising tide.

Featuring 2b’s trademark blend of humour, headiness, and heart, and marking the first time the two friends have shared the stage, this show strips away theatrics to expose two artists at the top of their game reliving the past and contending with an uncertain future.

Warning: This show contains sea shanties.

Co-created by Anthony Black and Christian Barry with David Gagnon Walker
Directed by Judy Wensel

2b wishes to acknowledge our role as settlers on this land and that this event is taking place on unceded and unsurrendered Mi’kmaq territory. Particularly for this production centred around the playwrights’ own relationships to their home, it is especially important to remember and recognize that we are on stolen land.

The Bus Stop Theatre is located in K’jipuktuk, which is covered by The Treaties of Peace and Friendship. These Treaties officially continue to be in effect, however settlers have repeatedly violated their terms. An immediate example of such is the case of the Alton Gas project, which you can learn more about here: https://stopaltongas.wordpress.com/

The Bus Stop is also located on Gottingen Street, which has historically been the home of Black Nova Scotians.

We are incredibly grateful to be able to create and present in this space.
