Taboo Theatre productions are developed and performed on unceded and unsurendered Mi’kmaw territory. We, as residents and visitors to Mi’kma’ki, are all treaty people, and aim to uphold our responsibilities therein while producing art.
Our goal is to explore theatre that challenges societal norms and explores power through centering the experiences and art of emerging artists and femmes.
Taboo Theatre was founded in 2006 and has produced a number of plays in Halifax, including The Waiting Gentlewoman, The Murder Play, Rut, Tattoo You, Porn Shoppe, the sold-out smash hit The Whores, Adult Entertainment, The Madonna Painter and six shows featuring short plays in the Grand Guignol genre.
Taboo Theatre is a member of Theatre Nova Scotia and The Bus Stop Theatre Co-op.
